Gyokko Ryu Kosshijutsu Scrolls

Gyokko Ryu Kosshijutsu also called Gyokko Ryu Ninpo has its source from Hakuun Ryu. In older times it was known as Shitojutsu (fingertip techniques), later as Kosshijutsu (finger joint techniques). Koto Ryu Koppojutsu comes from the Gyokko Ryu Kosshijutsu line. Associated Ryu are Gyokushin Ryu Koppojutsu and Gikan Ryu Koppojutsu strongly connected with the Koga Ryu and the Iga Ryu styles.

Everything known on Gyokko Ryu Kosshijutsu comes from Grandmaster Toshitsugu Takamatsu Sensei’s. The line traces back to the Chinese General exile Ikai and earlier through its founder, the Chinese female warrior Cho Gyokko. Ikai taught Gamon Doshi, whose apprentice was Garyu Doshi, who in turn taught Hachiryu Nyudo, the teacher of Tozowa Hakuunsai. Later the Ryu was under the grand mastership of Momochi Sandayu who passed it onto the Toda family. In Meiji Era, Grandmaster Toda Shinryuken Sensei Grandmaster Toshitsugu Takamatsu Senseipassed it on to Grandmaster Toshitsugu Takamatsu Sensei. Takamatsu then passed it on to Hatsumi Yoshiaki, Takamatsu was the last of the Toda line.

Hachiryu Nyudo invented a secret weapon to deflect sword cuts. It was named Kyoketsushoge. Kyoketsushoge means, “Running freely through the mountains and valleys”.

Iga Hakuun Ryu Ninpo was founded in Jinpyo Heiji Era (1151-1160) by Hakuun Doshi who taught Kimon Heibei and Tozawa Hakuunsai (Tozawa Kaneuji who was retainer of Minamoto Tameto). Heibei Hatsumi Yoshiakiand Hakuunsai were taught by Hachiryu Nyudo who was expert of Kosshijutsu. Hachiryu Nyudo was taught by Garyu Doshi. Garyu Doshi received transmission of this system from Gamon Doshi, who was taught by Ikai Shogun from China, an exile living in the Iga Mountains. Tozawa Hakuunsai was one of the pioneers of Hakuun Ryu Ninpo, with it’s main focus on Genjutsu (Illusionary Techniques). It is especially famed for the Demon Waza known as: Inki, Doki, Fuki, and Kaki. This Ninjutsu equalling “Mystical Ways”. Hakuun Ryu Ninpo is the parent of Togakure Ryu Ninpo. Techniques found in Gyokko Ryu, Koto Ryu, Gikan Ryu, Kumogakure Ryu, Kasumi Ryu rely greatly on those from Hakuun Ryu Ninpo.

Gyokko Ryu has Kamae, Kihon Gata (Kosshi ken, Kosshi Taihen-jutsu etc..), Jo Ryaku no Maki, Chu Ryaku no Maki, Ge Ryaku no Maki, Kaiden no Maki.
